Established in 1983, DART has been operating for almost four decades but only recently realized it was time for a big change. DART is kicking off the year with a new bus route in order to make it easier for its riders, so many bus stops will be changing locations, routes or even closing. Causing riders to change their regular bus routine from the suburbs all the way to downtown Dallas.
With the implementation of the DARTzoom and Bus Network Redesign Service changes, 74% of DART service area residents will have access to transit services within walking distance. The new system will decrease riders wait time and improve the rate on the crowded routes, as well as removing bus stops that were recording at underperforming rates. DART overall's goal was ensuring it had an even balance of frequency and coverage.
Although this new change isn’t fully agreed on with all of its riders yet, DART hope's they'll recognize the greater good it will accomplish for everyone. Thankfully, DART is providing free rides to passengers in order to promote adjustment to their new system. Beginning Monday, Jan. 24th until Sunday Jan. 30th (a whole week!), passengers will be able to adapt to the new way they will be getting around Dallas.
